Throughout my adult years, I’ve spent a staggering amount of time, energy, and money trying to make my bedroom look like it’s straight out of an Architectural Digest magazine. Not shockingly, as someone who does not consider myself to have an eye for design, I have never quite gotten it right. I once read that because your bed is the focal point of your bedroom, you should focus there first and worry about the rest of your bedroom’s decor details afterward, but since I find layering a bed and then making it every single day to be especially annoying and time-consuming, I’ve pretty much never advanced beyond that step.

Over the last few months, my Roman empire has become this: How do I get my bed to feel cozy and look aesthetic AF without it taking an ungodly amount of time, energy, and money? I looked to experts I know (read: people I follow on TikTok) to help me answer this question, and I don’t know why I didn’t look to them sooner. Ahead, I’m sharing 10 easy TikTok hacks that have changed how I approach making my bed for the better. Hear me now and believe me later, but it’s only a matter of time before my entire bedroom looks like it belongs on the cover of a magazine.

1. Burrito Duvet Method

There is nothing more dreadful than having to put a duvet insert back into its cover. What seems like a simple task always takes way more time and concentration than it should, but this TikTok hack went viral to show everyone that there is, in fact, an easier way. The “burrito method” entails laying your duvet cover inside-out on your bed, lining up the corners, and tying them to secure them in place. Then roll up the duvet cover and insert like a burrito. Next, open the duvet cover, pull the roll inside out, and unroll it. You may have to watch this video a few times to get right, but once you do, you’ll never fight with your duvet again.

2. Ghost Duvet Method

While this duvet cover hack is a two-person job, I personally think that it is easier and faster than the previous method. All you have to do is turn your duvet cover inside out, throw it over your partner, and hand them the corners of the duvet insert. To make sure it’s extra secure, tie up the top corners before flipping the cover back over your partner and securing the ends. If you live alone, ask a friend to help you while you’re doing your Sunday reset!

3. Double Duvet Covers

Have you ever wondered how people get their bed to look so fluffy? Here’s the secret: They are using two duvet inserts. While this seems a little extra, it really does make your bed look like a fluffy hotel bed. The trick is to make sure your duvet inserts are perfectly lined up before tying them together tightly to the corners of your duvet cover. If you’re worried about getting too warm with two layers, save this bed-making hack for winter!

4. Inside Out Pillowcase

If you implement any TikTok hacks from this list, let it be this inside-out pillowcase trick. Instead of shoving your pillows into your pillowcases and shaking them until they reach the ends, turn your pillowcase inside out, reach for the corners of your pillow, and simply roll the pillowcase over until it is on completely. When you do this, make sure that you are grabbing the sides with the tags first so they don’t stick out at the end!

5. Dimensional Pillow Stacking

Make your bed with these pillow stack styling tips. It can be consfusing to know where to place all your pillows and cushions on your bed. So here’s a couple of options and ways to place and style your pillows on your bed that make sense and look good. #makethebed#pillowstyling#pillowstack#cushionstyling#bedstyling

I firmly believe that it is possible to have too many pillows on a bed, but I know there are some of you out there who will say, “The more the merrier!” No matter what side of the pillow debate you’re on, know that you can add dimension and height to your bed—no matter how many you choose to implement—just by stacking them strategically. This TikTok video shows various options for dimensional pillow stacking, so you can easily achieve the look you are going for without taking a lot of time to assemble your bed every day.

6. Crisp Pillow Tuck

This simple pillow hack only takes a few seconds but will make your bedding look extra crisp and clean. Start by giving your pillow a good fluff, then tuck in the top flap of the pillowcase underneath the pillow followed by the bottom flap. Try this in your guest bedroom to really impress your guests! Tip: If you find that the ends of your pillowcases are getting untucked throughout the week, you’re not alone—you can try using safety pins to keep the flaps in place.

7. Spatula Tuck

Finally achieve the perfect bedding tuck without breaking a nail with the help of something you probably already have in your kitchen: a spatula. Once your sheets and duvet are all on your bed, take your spatula and push down your bedding into the outer edges of your bed frame. While this isn’t a necessary step by any means, it will take the look of your room up a notch.

8. Hotel Sheets Corner

To achieve a perfectly made bed, hotel corners (also called hospital corners) are a must! To start, tuck the bottom of your sheet under your mattress, leaving the side edge out. Next, pull the sheet up toward the ceiling and tuck the bottom of the sheet underneath the side of the mattress. Finally, make a triangle, pull the top part over, and tuck it in to make a fold. Once you get the hang of this, you can do it in seconds!

9. Layer Roll-Up

@havrillahome

I love having all the layers on my bed but I am a work smarter not harder type of person! I started rolling up all my layers at the end of the night and not only is it so much easier to make my bed in the morning but it keeps my blankets folded to perfection! #modernbedroom #bedroomstyling #bedroomdesign #studiomcgee #potterybarn #targetfinds #amazonhome

I love layering blankets at the end of my bed for aesthetic purposes, but they always fall to the floor in the middle of the night. If you know this struggle all too well and are over having to re-assemble them every morning, try this roll-up hack. Before bed, take your layers and roll them into each other (kind of like the burrito method!), and set them aside in your room. In the morning, all you have to do is unroll them, and your bed will be made in seconds.

10. Upside-Down Top Sheet

Patterned sheet girlies, listen up: If you’re not putting your flat sheet on your bed upside down, you’re doing it wrong! You’ll want to do this so that when you fold over the top part of your sheets and duvet (as shown in this video), your pattern is revealed instead of the backside of them. While this is a small adjustment, it makes your bedding look more intentional and polished.
