As a fashion minimalist, color usually doesn’t excite me; instead, it does quite literally the opposite. I own 10 of the same white tank tops and prefer a neutral color palette that stays in my comfort zone. So, when Barbiecore took over last summer and red became the color of the fall, I wasn’t quick to add bright pinks and fuchsias or vermillions to my closet. However, a fresh, new color has been creeping in to take the lead as the year’s hottest hue since late last summer, and spoiler: the tone is even friendly to those who are averse to color like myself. I’m happy to welcome buttery yellow into my spring wardrobe, and you should too.
Yellow is a mood booster. It reminds us of sunshine and positivity, which is a no-brainer when it comes to springtime dressing. For those who tend to gravitate toward neutral shades, light lemon colors are a refreshing pick that still feels easy on the eyes. Lighter yellow tones also closely resemble cream, making the leap from my white even top more palatable and styling options easy. For example, you can pair a lemon tank with denim shorts and flats, or a buttery, sheer top with a bralette and mini skirt. I’m always jealous of those who wear a lot of color and can be confident experimenting with their wardrobe. Opting for yellow is a way for me to try something new with my style—even if it’s just a baby step.
The easiest way I’m finding implementing yellow in my closet is with tops I would normally wear (just in a yellow shade) and accessories. This spring, I’m especially looking forward to pairing a buttery yellow linen dress styled with heels or sandals. Trendy tones, such as Barbie pink, will inevitably come and go, whereas a pale yellow shade is everlasting no matter the season. Simply put, yellow is a no-fuss way to incorporate color that still fits into a capsule wardrobe.
